Here is a Tesla in the junkyard. It is in immaculate condition except for the fact that the back LH wheel has gone whompy. The wheel and tire are undamaged and it seems impossible that the car could have had an impact that would break the suspension without even breaking a spoke of the wheel. There have been more than 100 similar failures and some of them have caused serious crashes. Please act immediately to recall these dangerous vehicles. Date of incident is an approximation. I am not the owner simply a concerned citizen.

Here is a Model S in the junkyard. https://m.iaai.com/VehicleDetEnc.aspx?AuctionID=0&ItemID=24209294&RowID=12&PageSource=VehicleResults# The front suspension has collapsed causing both wheels to jam up into the wheel arches. This is a near new car and yet it is being sold as an insurance write-off because it is either uneconomic or unsafe to be repaired. This failure has occurred at low speed and the air-bags have not deployed. If that had happened at highway speeds it would have caused a major crash. This car does not have bump stops on the air suspension so that a simple air leak can cause disaster. This situation has been going on for far too long. PLEASE take action to prevent loss of life. Note that I am not the owner, just a concerned citizen. Date of incident is an approximation.

Here is a Tesla in the junkyard. https://m.iaai.com/VehicleDetEnc.aspx?AuctionID=22647195&ItemID=24284013&RowID=9&PageSource=VehicleResults# The only damage appears to be that the front suspension has collapsed on both sides and yet it has been declared an insurance write off. This kind of failure is happening at a ridiculous rate on these cars and yet few owners have filed complaints. This may be due to the fact that most Tesla owners are also shareholders. This is not the case with other brands of cars. Please investigate this problem.

What happened?
Here is a Model X in the junkyard. The suspension has collapsed on all four wheels. The front LH wheel is gouged almost in half from the inside. The damage to the wheel is almost certainly caused by a broken suspension arm in the same way that many other Tesla suspensions have failed. Please investigate the circumstances of this incident to find out if mechanical failure was the cause.

Another Tesla in the junkyard https://m.iaai.com/VehicleDetEnc.aspx?AuctionID=0&ItemID=24196330&RowID=21&PageSource=VehicleResults# It does appear to show the characteristic signs of suspension collapse. Whilst it is possible that this is the result of a collision it is also quite possible that it was the CAUSE of the collision. For an expensive car that is mainly driven by older and more conservative owners than the average car it is showing up as insurance write off in an excessive percentage of cases. Please investigate the circumstances of this incident.

Here is another Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24284013&RowNumber=9&loadRecent=True It is listed as having undercarriage damage. The photographs show the car is in pristine condition except that the suspension has collapsed. The rear wheels are displaced towards the rear of the car. The fact that this car is being written off instead of repaired suggests that the undercarriage can not be repaired to a safe condition at a reasonable cost or possibly that Tesla does not want to take the risk of the suspension failing again later. Forum posters have complained that after experiencing minor accidents that cause suspension damage their cars are still awaiting repair months later and can not get any word from Tesla as to when their cars will be returned to them. Please investigate.

Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24164989&RowNumber=17&loadRecent=True It has been having a very bad day! The LH side has suffered major impact damage. The RH side is relatively undamaged but the back wheel has gone all whompy. Bearing in mind the large number of other incidents in which Tesla suspensions have failed it seems possible that the skewed RH back wheel is what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Please investigate this problem. Note: I am not the owner, just a concerned citizen. Dates and mileage are approximations.

Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24298768&RowNumber=22&loadRecent=True It is listed as having suspension damage and has been written off by the insurer. There is no damage to the bodywork and the airbags have not deployed. The suspension appears to have collapsed in the usual Tesla fashion. It seems extraordinary that the suspension does not have bump stops to prevent this repeating failure. It is also extraordinary that the car needs to be written off rather than repaired to a safe condition. Please investigate. Note: I am not the owner, just a concerned citizen. I am filing this complaint to draw to the attention of NHTSA that there is pattern of failures in the Tesla suspensions that is putting lives at risk. Here is another Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.copart.com/lot/41350906/Photos Once again the air suspension has collapsed on all four wheels. The car does not appear to have been involved in a collision and the air-bags have not deployed. It would appear that all the damage caused to the car is a result of suspension collapse. Please note that I am not the owner just a concerned citizen. Date of incident is an approximation.

Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24320063&RowNumber=33&loadRecent=True The suspension has collapsed on all four wheels. The back RH wheel and suspension has been completely torn off. There is no collision damage. The air-bags have not deployed. This is yet another example of Tesla suspension failure. Owners are driving around in these cars believing that they are in one of the safest cars in the world. The numbers of crashed Teslas showing up in the junkyards suggest that it is simply unsafe at any speed. Please issue a warning to the public and prevent further death and injury.

Here is a Model X in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24242595&RowNumber=57&loadRecent=True It has been involved in a major collision. I have no knowledge about the circumstances of the crash but it may be significant that the back wheels are both jammed up in the wheel wells and that the back RH wheel appears to be skewed sideways. There is no impact damage to the back of the car that would account for the wheels being offset in this way. Please investigate this crash to see whether suspension failure was the cause. Note that I am not the owner and my only knowledge of this incident comes from examination of the photographs posted on this salvage auction site.

What happened?
Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=23943967&RowNumber=20&loadRecent=True The attached photograph shows that the top ball joint on the front RH wheel has separated causing gouging of the tire tread. The wheel is displaced towards the rear of the wheel well which is most likely the cause of the fire. The fire has been hot enough to melt metal so it is almost certain that the Lithium batteries were the source of the fire. Please investigate the problems with Tesla suspensions and also the issue of battery fires. Lithium battery fires burn burn extremely hot, emit toxic fumes, and are difficult to extinguish. I request that you investigate the circumstances of this incident. I am not the owner, just a very concerned citizen. Date of incident is an approximation.

Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.salvagereseller.com/cars-for-sale/19708347-2015-TESLA-MODEL-S-85-KY-LOUISVILLE The front suspension has fallen apart and the wheel and tire are badly damaged. Here is a Tesla in the salvage yard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24188268&RowNumber=9&loadRecent=True It has had a slight bump up the rear, most likely caused by the Tesla stopping without any warning due to the suspension collapsing. The front wheels are jammed up into the wheel wells. The car is listed as having suspension damage and having a repair cost estimate of $43K. The car has done just 49 Miles from new. Please investigate the causes of the suspension failures in the Tesla which are happening ridiculously often. Note: I am not the owner. Here is a Tesla Model X in the salvage yard. It looks as though the suspension has collapsed. The front LH wheel is jammed up against the rear of the well and it looks as though the rim of the wheel has been sliced apart whilst it was still rotating. The back RH wheel and suspension wheel has fallen off completely and there is no impact damage to that area of the car. Bearing in mind the large number of incidents of suspension failures on Teslas it would seem highly likely that the cause of this serious crash was that the back wheel fell off. In addition to photographic evidence you have published complaints from actual owners complaining of wheels going whompy or falling off completely.
