Here is another Tesla just arrived in the junkyard: https://www.salvagereseller.com/cars-for-sale/23213537-2014-TESLA-MODEL-S-WEST-PALM-BEACH-FL The front RH wheel has snapped off. The steering knuckle is jammed into the tire. The front RH headlight is not even broken It is near impossible that the damage was the result of a collision. Looks like another case of suspension failure. Please investigate.

Here is a burned out Tesla in the junkyard https://www.salvagereseller.com/cars-for-sale/27627757-2016-TESLA-MODEL-S-SAN-DIEGO-CA The car has bio-hazard stickers which indicates that the occupants were probably injured. The pictures show that the front LH upper ball joint has separated and that the wheel has been sliced in half. The drivers air-bag has not deployed so it is unlikely that the suspension damage was caused by a front end collision. There are a great many cases of Teslas having suspensions collapse. There are a great many Teslas that have caught fire. Please investigate the cause of this accident. Please note that I am not the owner but simply a concerned citizen. The date of the crash and the extent of injuries is an educated guess.

Here is another Tesla in the junkyard with a snapped off back wheel. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=25122928&RowNumber=51&loadRecent=True Pictures show that no airbags have deployed, car has not been in a crash. The suspension components have simply snapped off as has happened many times before on Tesla cars. The suspension giblets are far too weak for a car of this power and performance. Please investigate.

This is a complaint intended to provide further evidence that Teslas are experiencing suspension failures and are catching fire at a much higher rate than most other vehicles. I have attached photographs from the current stock of wrecked Teslas at a junkyard in The Netherlands so as to further prove the argument that these cars have a major safety problem. Here is a link to the stock of Tesla wrecks in just that one junkyard: https://www.proxyparts.com/vehicle-stock/ Select Tesla from the menu. There are currently over 100 wrecked Teslas in American junkyards and probably as many again in overseas junkyards. Recent Insurance assessments show that Teslas are crashing at double the normal rate for comparable cars. http://www.iihs.org/iihs/topics/insurance-loss-information Select large luxury cars from the drop-down menu. Please investigate the reasons for all of these crashes. Thank you.

Here is a Tesla forum discussion regarding broken suspensions in the Model S: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/model-s-axle-issues.92069/page-2#post-2142321 Prompted by this discussion the owner of a 2013 Model S has inspected his own suspension and has posted a photograph which is attached. The lower suspension arm bolt has snapped off. The rim of the wheel has been gouged. The suspension arm is rubbing against the tire and fragments of rubber are spread all over the suspension. This is obviously highly dangerous. Just one such event should be justification for an immediate recall. You have dozens of similar failures on record. Please investigate.

Here is a 2017 Model X in the junkyard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=25188896&RowNumber=15&loadRecent=True Both front wheels and suspensions have fallen completely off and one of the back wheels has gone all whompy. There is no sign of collision damage apart from the front suspension collapse which has destroyed the wheel arches. These suspension failures are occurring at a ridiculously high rate and in near new cars so it can not be blamed upon poor maintenance. Please take action immediately rather than waiting for more lives to be lost. Thank you. Concerned citizen.

A Tesla Model X has just crashed and burst into flames. http://www.ocregister.com/2017/06/25/car-smashes-into-ocfa-gates-in-a-recurring-problem/ Photographs are attached which shows a front wheel and suspension lying on the ground some distance before the crash scene. The top ball joint has popped apart. Even if the suspension was hit in the crash the ball joint should not have popped. You have several other complaints on record of Tesla ball joints coming apart. It is quite possible that the ball-joint failure caused the crash. Also the Tesla has once again self-ignited. Crash tests need to be done with a battery that is hot from recent charging or from fast driving to find out why Teslas burst into flames so often. Please investigate

https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/6jrdhe/model_sx_rattling_from_front_drive_shaft/?st=j4gmlbjk&sh=2d210fe0 Tesla seems to have a culture of denying that there are any faults in these cars and are still using Non Disclosure Agreements that have the effect of discouraging owners from complaining to the authorities. Here is a report of a Tesla Model X in China having every air-bag in the car suddenly go off whilst the car was stationary at a traffic light. http://hznews.hangzhou.com.cn/shehui/content/2017-06/27/content_6588362.htm (Google will translate) Occupants were slightly injured by the air-bags. If Tesla air-bags were to go off randomly they could cause a major crash. The owner claims that Tesla is being uncooperative. Please investigate

Here is another Tesla in the junkyard. https://www.iaai.com/Vehicle?itemID=24196330&RowNumber=59&loadRecent=True The front RH suspension has collapsed. The RH front wheel is sliced in half. The tire on the RH front wheel has the tread badly worn away. This is not consistent with the normal wear pattern on such a relatively new car. It looks far more like it was caused by the suspension collapse forcing the wheel up against the bodywork. There is a ridiculous number of Teslas showing up as salvage wrecks. The insurers would probably place the blame on Tesla having a mechanical defect. It is my belief that Tesla is making deals with the insurers and owners to cover up these problems. Please investigate.

Here is another Tesla in the junkyard. https://www.salvagereseller.com/cars-for-sale/25069826-2014-TESLA-MODEL-S-VAN-NUYS-CA The front suspension has fallen apart in an interesting manner. The top ball-joint stem has simply pulled out of the clamped slot which is meant to hold it in place causing the entire suspension to fall outwards. I am a well trained engineer and in my opinion the design of this suspension that relies upon an undersized ball-joint held in place by clamping up a slotted hole in a brittle alloy steering knuckle is an accident waiting to happen. I have attached a photograph of a Tesla steering knuckle from another car that failed without good cause. I can provide evidence of the incident that is associated with that failure. The knuckle has suffered brittle fracture which is to be expected with such a poor design. Date of incident is an approximation. Please take action. Concerned citizen.

Here is another Tesla in the junkyard. The front suspension has collapsed on both sides. It does not appear that the car has been involved in a collision with another vehicle. The damage looks to be entirely self inflicted due to the suspension failure. It is obvious that Tesla has a culture that refuses to recognise these repeated suspension failures and by their use of Non Disclosure Agreements discourages owners from reporting to the authorities. I believe it is long overdue for NHTSA to investigate these matters. Thank you. Concerned citizen. Date of incident is an approximation.

I have filed many reports about Tesla suspension failures but since I am not an actual owner perhaps you are not taking these complaints seriously. Here is a discussion thread in which an actual owner reports this problem: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/front-upper-ball-joints.93694/ Snip: scottm, Sunday at 5:10 PM It’s ball joint time, starting to feel some movement… mechanic estimates 10 - 20 mil movement of upper ball joint. I have been feeling increased “wander” or “rut following” behavior on the highways… car has 100,000 km on it. Are there any improved (stronger / heavy duty) or aftermarket suspension parts for our S’s yet? My mechanic noticed the front upper ball joints are riveted onto the upper control arm… and theorized it might be possible to drill them off and replace with some other ball joint. Like maybe something for a 3/4 ton truck ? Anybody gotten adventurous with suspension mods yet… I’m off warranty so what the heck. Not afraid to do stuff in a machine shop. And this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgdKZMlzQog Please take action immediately. Thank you. Concerned citizen.

Here is yet another instance of a Tesla suspension failure. Please investigate this major defect. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/serious-problem-with-my-2016-model-s.95065/ I have owned my 2016 Model S for just over one year (25k miles) and have been a huge fan of Tesla. I like reading the forums and have been a very happy owner. However, I was driving home with my wife from church this morning and the car had a potentially life threatening failure. I began noticing a “thud” type sound on normal road bumps on my drive home, and when I slowed turning into my development and pressed on the brakes to slow down the car, it began making a shrill sound and the car began jumping up and down. I pulled over and noticed that it looks like something completely fell off the front driver’s side axel or turning apparatus (I’m not very knowledgeable about car parts!) Has anyone else experienced this? I am hoping this is an anomaly as I really love my Tesla, but if this would have happened on the highway or on autopilot I can’t imagine things ending well for me and my family. I am very happy to be safe at home. I will reach out to service Monday am to get this fixed. I am attaching a picture of what I saw in the front passenger side wheel where something seems to have completely come off the cars suspension.

There is no collision damage and the air-bags have not deployed. The suspension has collapsed on both sides of the car causing the wheels to jam up in the wheel wells. This same failure is occurring repeatedly. It seems that the design is lacking a bump stop and that a simple air leak in the suspension can result in catastrophic failure. Please investigate.
