WE WERE IN A PARKING LOT OF “KIDQUEST MUSEUM” IN BELLEVUE , WA. , TAKING OUR GRAND DAUGHTER, ONE YEAR OLD, TO THE MUSEUM. OUR CAR WAS IN STATIONARY POSITION. WE WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO PARK. DURING THIS TIME, OUR MODEL X, TOOK OFF WITH UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND WE COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR. IT WAS INSTANTANEOUS, OUR CAR WENT AND HIT A PARKED CHEVY VAN. THIS VAN FWENT UPSIDE DOWN AND WENT OVER THE FENCE INTO THE LOT NEXT TO IT. AFTER THE IMPACT OUR CAR WENT AND HIT ELETRIC POLE, WENT INTO BUSHES AND OVER AN ELECTRICAL BOX OF 5 BY 5. I COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE CAR (MY WIFE THINKS SMOKE MIGHT HAVE STARTED WHILE THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING"). MUSEUM STAFF CAME AND OPENED THE PASSENGER DOOR. AFTER SHE GOT OUT, FIRST THING THEY DID WAS TO OPEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND TOOK OUT OUR GRANDDAUGHTER. I CAME OUT THRU PASSENGER DOO.

FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT. MANY OF THE AIRBAGS CAME OUT. WE ARE UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY. THE PARKING LOT IS APPROXIMATELY 100 FT X 100. THIS IS THE PARKING LOT USUALLY WHERE MANY KIDS ARE IN THE LOT. FORTUNATELY THAT MOMENT THERE WAS NONE. ACCIDENT HAPPENED AROUND 4:20 P.M . WEATHER WAS GRAY BUT NO RAIN. WE STILL CAN NOT COMPREHEND HOW CAR CAN TAKE OFF AT THAT SPEED. NONE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM OR THE CAMERAS WORKED TO STOP THE CAR

THIS IS CONTRARY TO THE ADVICE GIVEN BY EVERY DRIVING SCHOOL AND EVERY REGULATORY AUTHORITY IN THE WORLD.

HAVING ONE HAND LOOSELY RESTING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WHEEL WILL NOT ALLOW THE DRIVER TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE . THE MARKETING OF THIS AUTOPILOT FEATURE HAS BEEN GROSSLY IRRESPONSIBLE AND THE CLAIM THAT IT IS 40% SAFER THAN A HUMAN DRIVER IS SIMPLY LUDICROUS.

INTERNET FORUMS AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS SHOW THAT OWNERS ARE PUTTING LIVES IN DANGER BY USING THIS FEATURE ON NARROW WINDING ROADS AND IN INAPPROPRIATE SITUATIONS.

TESLA WILL ALWAYS CLAIM THAT AUTOPILOT WAS NOT ENGAGED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH BECAUSE IT DISENGAGES THE MOMENT BEFORE IMPACT.

THIS IS NOT A LAUGHING MATTER.

PLEASE STOP THIS MADNESS BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST.

IT LOOKS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THIS CAR’S SUSPENSION COLLAPSED CAUSING IT TO SLOW DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY AND GET RAMMED UP THE REAR BY ANOTHER CAR.

THE TOP BALL JOINT HAS POPPED APART. THIS BALL JOINT IS MUCH TOO FLIMSY FOR A CAR OF THIS WEIGHT AND PERFORMANCE. THIS CAR IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD SO THE FAILURE CAN NOT BE BLAMED ON POOR MAINTENANCE OR EXCESSIVE MILEAGE.

PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE REASON WHY SO MANY LOW MILEAGE NEAR NEW TESLAS ARE HAVING SUSPENSION FAILURES.

IT IS VERY CONCERNING THAT INSTEAD OF REMEDYING THE PROBLEM AND REPAIRING THESE LIGHTLY DAMAGED VEHICLES THEY ARE INSTEAD BEING AUCTIONED OFF AS SALVAGE VEHICLES.

NORMALLY AN EXPENSIVE CAR LIKE THIS WHICH HAS SUFFERED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE WOULD BE REPAIRED.

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT TESLA IS SCARED THAT A REPAIRED VEHICLE WOULD PROBABLY FAIL AGAIN AND THAT THEY WOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

THE MOTOR OF THIS CAR PRODUCES SO MUCH TORQUE THAT IF A BRAKE CALIPER ON THAT WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED THE TORQUE COULD EASILY RIP OFF THOSE FRAGILE ALLOY COMPONENTS.

THIS IS NOT A ONE OFF OCCURRENCE.

SHE CONTACTED TESLA AND THEY TOWED THE CAR TO A SERVICE CENTER. THEY INFORMED HER THAT ONE OF THE LINKS FRACTURED CAUSING THE BALL JOINT TO SEPARATE. WE HAVE THE FRACTURED LINK (POLICE FOUND IT IN THE STREET). THE CAR ONLY HAS ABOUT 10,000 MILES ON IT, SO SEEMS UNLIKELY TO BE A WEAR-AND-TEAR ISSUE.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE ON THEIR CAR?**

THE PHOTOGRAPH IS ATTACHED. THESE FAILURES ARE OCCURRING OVER AND OVER. THE ALLOY PARTS ARE TOO WEAK FOR THE PURPOSE. CAST ALLOY IS NOT A GOOD MATERIAL TO USE.

THE EYE-HOLE WALLS ARE TOO THIN AND THE CAST ALLOY IS TOO BRITTLE.

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY NHTSA HAS NOT TAKEN ACTION OVER THESE LETHAL DEFECTS.

THE TIRES WOULD HAVE HAD TO ROTATE HUNDREDS OF TIMES TO WEAR AWAY THE TREAD.

IT IS MOST LIKELY THAT THE SUSPENSION COLLAPSED WHILST DRIVING CAUSING THE TIRES TO RUB AGAINST THE WHEEL WELLS. (THIS FAILURE IS VERY COMMON ON AIR SUSPENSION TESLAS)

DUE TO THE HIGH POWER OF THE TESLA THE DRIVER WAS PROBABLY UNAWARE OF A PROBLEM UNTIL THE SUSPENSION FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY RESULTING IN A ROLLOVER CRASH.

THEY ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE WENT SUDDENLY FROM 2% TO 97% AND THEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, BUT WHEN I ASKED FOR MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE APPROACH TO THE PARKING SPACE, FOR A COPY OF THE REPORT THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE IT WITHOUT A SUBPOENA.

HERE IS A THREAD ON THE TESLA MOTORS CLUB FORUM IN WHICH SEVERAL POSTERS PROVIDE DETAILED PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE THAT THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR IS FALLING APART DUE TO CORROSION.

THE THREAD STARTS IN OCTOBER 2017 AND IS ACTIVE RIGHT UP UNTIL THE PRESENT TIME WITH OWNERS DESCRIBING DIY REPAIRS THAT WILL PROBABLY MAKE THE SITUATION EVEN MORE DANGEROUS.

THIS CORRODED BOLTS PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEM FOUND ON FORD AND OTHER MAKES OF CARS THAT RESULTED IN A MASSIVE RECALL.

THE SPINDLE OF THE LOWER BALL-JOINT ON THE RH SIDE HAS SNAPPED CAUSING THE SUSPENSION TO BE SPLAYED OUT AT AN ANGLE AND WITH THAT WHEEL POINTING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL.

THE WHEEL AND TIRE ARE UNDAMAGED.

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL TO HAVE BEEN STRUCK A HARD ENOUGH BLOW TO BREAK THE STEEL STEM OF THE BALL JOINT WITHOUT THE WHEEL BEING DAMAGED.
