THERE IS NO SIGN OF DAMAGE CAUSED BY A COLLISION. IT IS ALMOST CERTAIN THAT THE MINOR DAMAGE TO THE BODYWORK IS JUST THE RESULT OF THE SUSPENSION COLLAPSE.

MANY OWNERS HAVE MADE FORUM POSTS STATING THAT THEIR SUSPENSIONS HAVE COLLAPSED IN A SIMILAR MANNER.

PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE REASONS FOR THESE REPEATED FAILURES.

THE FRONT RH SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED AND THE TIRE HAS THE TREAD BADLY WORN AWAY WHICH MEANS THE WHEEL KEPT ROTATING FOR SOME TIME BETWEEN THE SUSPENSION FAILURE AND THE SUBSEQUENT COLLISION.

THE BACK LH WHEEL HAS GONE COMPLETELY WHOMPY EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO SIGN OF AN IMPACT AT THAT PART OF THE CAR.

TESLAS ARE HAVING SUSPENSION FAILURES AT AN ALARMING RATE.

THE AIR SUSPENSION IS PRONE TO COLLAPSE AND DOES NOT EVEN HAVE BUMP STOPS TO LIMIT SUSPENSION TRAVEL WHEN PROBLEMS OCCUR.

THE USE OF CAST ALUMINIUM SUSPENSION COMPONENTS INCREASES THE DANGER.

CAST ALUMINIUM IS NOT A STRONG MATERIAL AND IS PRONE TO DEFECTS CAUSED BY IMPURITIES AND TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS DURING THE CASTING PROCESS.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY TESLA S75 D IN A COSTCO SPACE, THE CAR BOLTED. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS IN AUTOPILOT MODE WITHOUT ME ENGAGING IT MANUALLY. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. IT HIT THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR PARKED IN FRONT. FORTUNATELY, IT DIDN?T DO ANY DAMAGE TO THAT VEHICLE BUT IT CAUSED PLENTY OF DAMAGE TO MY FRONT END. I?LL NEED A NEW BUMPER AND HOOD. IT ALSO DEACTIVATED MY AUTOPILOT AND RADAR WHICH ARE BEHIND THE BUMPER. I CAN STILL DRIVE THE CAR AND FEEL FAIRLY SAFE AS I BELIEVE THE COMPUTER ACCIDENTALLY ENGAGED THE AUTOPILOT AND NOW THE AUTOPILOT ISN?T OPERATIONAL. HOWEVER, I NO LONGER TRUST THIS CAR. I?VE PRESENTED THIS PROBLEM TO TESLA AND THEY SAID IS WAS USER ERROR BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT I WAS NOT AT FAULT. I?VE DONE RESEARCH AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN THE WORKS AS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER TESLA USERS. MY ADVISE, DON?T BUY A TESLA!!!

THE TESLAS DO NOT HAVE LIMIT STOPS ON THE SUSPENSION WHICH MEANS THAT AN AIR LEAK OR A SOFTWARE GLITCH CAN CAUSE THE SUSPENSION TO COLLAPSE WITH DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES. THIS SAME TYPE OF FAILURE IS OCCURRING OVER AND OVER WITH THESE TESLAS.

THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING OVER AND OVER WITH THE TESLAS. THE AIR SUSPENSION DOES NOT HAVE LIMIT STOPS TO PREVENT THE SUSPENSION FALLING TOO LOW.

COLLAPSES HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS BEING CAUSED BY AIR LEAKS OR EVEN BY A NEW AND GLITCHY SOFTWARE UPDATE.

THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY DANGEROUS.

EVEN IF (AS BEEN CLAIMED BY SOME TESLA ENTHUSIASTS) THE SUSPENSION IS INTENDED TO SNAP OFF TO PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT - THERE IS NO CERTAINTY THAT THE COMPONENTS DID NOT SNAP OFF AND CAUSE THE ACCIDENT.

ALL THE DAMAGE ON THAT CAR LOOKS AS THOUGH IT MIGHT BE SELF-INFLICTED INJURY CAUSED BY SNAPPED SUSPENSION.

THERE IS NO OTHER CAR ON THE ROADS WHICH SUFFERS FROM SUSPENSION FAILURES AT SUCH A HIGH PROPORTION IN RELATION TO THE NUMBER OF CARS PRODUCED.

THESE ARE ALL LATE MODEL AND LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES SO THE FAILURES CAN NOT BE BLAMED ON POOR MAINTENANCE…

THE TREAD ON THIS TIRE IS COMPLETELY WORN AWAY.

THIS CAR IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD SO THAT CAN NOT POSSIBLY BE NORMAL WEAR ON THE TIRE.

TESLAS ARE VERY PRONE TO COLLAPSE OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS.

IF THE CAR IS ON CRUISE CONTROL OR AUTOPILOT THEN EVEN IF THE TIRE IS RUBBING HARD AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION THE CAR WILL APPLY MORE POWER TO COMPENSATE AND THE DRIVER MAY BE UNAWARE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM UNTIL THERE IS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.

TO MAKE THIS ABSOLUTELY CLEAR - I BELIEVE THAT THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM IN THE TESLAS IS DEFECTIVE AND THAT THE COMPANY IS COVERING UP THESE DEFECTS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DALLAS-CEDAR SPRINGS ROAD TESLA (6500 CEDAR SPRINGS ROAD, SUITE 100 (214) 736-0587), BUT NO FAILURES WERE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO HUMAN ERROR. THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME WHILE PARKING IN A HOSPITAL PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING, JUMPED A CURB, AND COLLIDED WITH A METAL POLE, A SMALL TREE, AND AN AMBULANCE. THE HOSPITAL POLICE WAS AT THE SCENE, BUT WAS UNAWARE IF A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JOHN EAGLE COLLISION CENTER (6125 PEELER ST, DALLAS, TX 75235 (855) 575-6368), BUT NO REPAIRS OR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WERE COMPLETED. THIS PARTICULAR OWNER LIVES IN CANADA AND HAS TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CANADIAN AUTHORITIES.

WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IT MADE AN AWFUL GRINDING NOISE AND NO POWER ASSIST AVAILABLE. ALL THEY COULD DO FOR ME IS TO PATCH ME IN TO SERVICE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY.

I DECIDED TO TAKE A LOOK FOR MYSELF AND REMOVED THE FRUNK TUB. VOILA!, THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR HAD SEPARATED FROM THE STEERING RACK.

ALL 3 ALUMINUM BOLTS HOLDING THIS MOTOR TO THE STEERING RACK HAD SHEARED OFF. HERE IS ONE THAT I FOUND. THERE WAS MASSIVE CORROSION DUE TO ROAD SALT GETTING INTO IT

WEB RESEARCH SHOWS AT LEAST FIVE OTHER INSTANCES OF THE SAME FAILURE ON A PRE FACELIFT CAR. POST FACE LIFT CARS HAVE A REDESIGNED STEERING MOTOR WITH COATED STEEL BOLTS HOLDING IT. **

MANY OWNERS ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT ELECTRIC CARS ARE ALMOST MAINTENANCE FREE AND THEY CAN SAVE MONEY BY SKIPPING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.

THE OWNERS ON THE POWER STEERING FAILURE THREAD STATE THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE STEERING FAILED COMPLETELY.

THE NUMBER OF WRECKED TESLAS SHOWING UP IN SALVAGE CAR AUCTIONS IS EXTREMELY HIGH IN PROPORTION TO THE NUMBER OF TESLAS SOLD.

IT IS TIME FOR THESE CARS TO UNDERGO A MANDATORY SAFETY INSPECTION BY A QUALIFIED NON-TESLA AUTHORITY.

THIS CAN ONLY HAVE HAPPENED IF THE SUSPENSION BROKE BEFORE ANY COLLISION OCCURRED. THE HEADLIGHT ON THAT SIDE IS NOT EVEN BROKEN.

IT LOOKS AS THOUGH ALL THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE IS SELF-INFLICTED DUE TO SUSPENSION FAILURE.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A REAR WHEEL DRIVE ONLY MODEL SO THAT IT WAS NOT THE POWER OF THE DRIVE MOTOR THAT WORE THE TREAD AWAY. THE CAR MUST HAVE DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL MILES WITH THE TIRE RUBBING BEFORE THE SUSPENSION FAILED COMPLETELY.

THE EVIDENCE POINTING TO A DESIGN/MANUFACTURING FAILURE IN THESE TESLAS IS OVERWHELMING.

IF NO ACTION IS TAKEN IT IS A CERTAINTY THAT MORE DEATHS AND INJURIES WILL OCCUR DUE TO SUSPENSION FAILURES.

THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH A SUSPENSION COMPONENT FAILURE CAUSING THE TIRE TO RUB UP AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL WHILST THE CAR WAS TRAVELLING.

IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR SUCH TREAD WEAR TO OCCUR POST COLLISION AS THE WHEEL WOULD NEED TO HAVE ROTATED HUNDREDS OF TIMES TO CAUSE THE TREAD TO BE WORN SMOOTH.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO PREVENT MORE DEATHS AND INJURIES BEING CAUSED BY THESE TESLAS. THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY CRASHES IN WHICH MECHANICAL FAILURE APPEARS TO BE A PROBABLE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT THAT AN INVESTIGATION IS OVERDUE.

ANY MECHANICAL ENGINEER CAN CONFIRM THAT THE ALLOY SUSPENSION PARTS DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT MARGIN OF SAFETY FOR SUCH A HEAVY AND POWERFUL CAR.

REMOVED THE TUB AND VOILA! THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE ORIGINAL POSTER.

CLEANED IT AND GOT 8MM BOLTS AND DID A BEAUTIFUL RE-ATTACHMENT JOB AND NO MORE MESSAGES BUT WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL, AWFUL GRINDING NOISE. SO THE GEAR IS WORN.

THESE ARE NO LONGER “ONE OFFS” BUT A PATTERN OF SERIOUS PROBLEMS AFFECTING A KEY SAFETY COMPONENT: STEERING. WORST CASE, THE OLDEST MODEL S IS JUST OVER FIVE YEARS OLD. THIS KIND OF WEAR AND DAMAGE–MAJOR STEERING PROBLEMS–IS UNSAT FOR CARS AT TEN OR FIFTEEN YEARS OLD.

TESLA: PLEASE GET ON THIS PROBLEM WITH A PLAN TO RECALL THE CARS AND REPLACE THESE COMPONENTS PROACTIVELY, BEFORE THE INEVITABLE BAD PRESS WHICH WILL RESULT FROM DOING NOTHING, NOT TO MENTION THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS SHOULD THERE BE ACCIDENTS. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS VERY MUCH A SUPPLIER ISSUE AND THE SUPPLIER NEEDS TO STEP UP AND OPEN THEIR CHECKBOOK, AND OPEN IT WIDE.**

ELON MUSK HAS CLAIMED THAT TESLAS ARE MUCH LESS LIKELY TO CATCH FIRE THAN A GASOLINE POWERED CAR AND THAT THEY ARE NOW EVEN SAFER THAN BEFORE DUE TO THE TITANIUM BATTERY SHIELDS AND THE (TEMPORARILY) RAISED SUSPENSION HEIGHT.

A GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH FOR BURNED TESLA OR TESLA FIRE REVEALS THAT THERE HAVE NOW BEEN AT LEAST 20 TESLAS DESTROYED BY FIRE WHICH IS A VERY LARGE NUMBER IN PROPORTION TO THE NUMBER OF CARS ON THE ROADS.

I BELIEVE THAT THE 7 GALLONS OF HOT ETHYLENE GLYCOL IN EVERY TESLA IS A HIGH RISK FACTOR.

IF THE LITHIUM BATTERY ALSO BECOMES INVOLVED IN A FIRE IT BURNS INTENSELY AND IS EXTREMELY HARD TO EXTINGUISH.

NO OTHER ELECTRIC CAR HAS SUCH A HIGH RISK FACTOR OF HAVING ETHYLENE GLYCOL CARRIED IN RADIATORS AT THE VERY FRONT OF THE CAR PLUS SUCH A LARGE VOLUME OF FLAMMABLE LIQUID COOLANT.

THE BATTERY PACK APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE.

THE AIR-BAGS HAVE NOT BEEN DEPLOYED AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF COLLISION DAMAGE.

THE INVESTIGATION INTO TESLA FIRES WAS CANCELLED AFTER TESLA FITTED A LIGHTWEIGHT TITANIUM BATTERY SHIELD AND RELEASED SOME VERY POOR QUALITY VIDEOS DEMONSTRATING THE INVINCIBILITY OF THE BATTERY SHIELD. THE RIDE HEIGHT WAS ALSO RAISED (FOR A FEW WEEKS) BUT SOON WENT BACK TO ULTRA-LOW.

A GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH FOR “TESLA FIRE” SHOWS THAT MANY OF THESE CARS ARE STILL BURSTING INTO FLAMES.

PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MORE TESLA OCCUPANTS ARE INCINERATED.

IT HAS BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR BUT THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW A SKEWED REAR WHEEL AND BROKEN SUSPENSION LINKAGE WHICH IS VERY LIKELY THE REASON THAT THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED/SWERVED CAUSING IT TO BE HIT FROM THE REAR.

THE ALLOY LOWER SUSPENSION ARM HAS SNAPPED.

THE WHEEL AND TIRE ARE UNDAMAGED.

IT IS HIGHLY IMPROBABLE THAT COLLISION DAMAGE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE BROKEN SUSPENSION ARM SINCE THE TIRE WOULD HAVE ABSORBED MOST OF THE IMPACT.

FROM THE CRASH TESTING VIDEOS IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE TESLA WHEELS ARE VERY FRAGILE AND OUGHT TO HAVE BROKEN BEFORE THE SUSPENSION DID.

THIS LOOKS ONCE AGAIN TO BE THE FAULT OF POOR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF THE CAST ALLOY SUSPENSION PARTS IN THE TESLA.

***MINE HAS HAD NUMEROUS SUSPENSION REPLACEMENTS DONE DURING SERVICING (NOT REQUESTED BY ME, BUT PRINTED ON THE JOB SHEETS). I ALSO KNOW SEVERAL OTHERS WITH SIMILAR VINTAGE CARS (PRE-2015) THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROACTIVE WORK DONE.

SO IT MAY NOT BE WHOLESALE THROUGHOUT THE FLEET, BUT IT DOES APPEAR THEY HAVE BEEN DOING “RECALL-LITE” ON SOMETHING SUSPENSION RELATED ON AT LEAST PART OF THE FLEET.****

THE ALLOY SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ARE TOO WEAK FOR THE PURPOSE. THEY HAVE INSUFFICIENT MARGIN OF SAFETY. THE CAST ALLOY PARTS ARE PRONE TO CASTING DEFECTS MAKING THEM DANGEROUSLY WEAK.

THE LEFT FRONT FORE LINK BALL JOINT SNAPPED LIKE GLASS DURING NORMAL DRIVING. LUCKILY I WAS GOING AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEED ON A SIDE STREET. THIS ALLOWED THE SUSPENSION TO ALLOW THE WHEEL TO SLAM INTO THE FIREWALL AND IT LOCKED UP CAUSING THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO HIT A CURB. AS AN ENGINEER THIS SCARES THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME, AS IF IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON A HIGH SPEED HIGHWAY TURN, THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. EVEN WITHOUT AN UNDERSTANDING OF ADVANCED METALLURGY, IT’S CLEAR THAT A HARDENED STEEL BALL JOINT SHOULD BE STRONGER THEN THE SURROUNDING ALUMINUM ALLOY PARTS ON EITHER SIDE THAT IT ATTACHES TO. IT LOOKS LIKE A GLASS ROD HIT WITH A HAMMER. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO ANOTHER 2014 IN OUR FAMILY ABOUT A YEAR AGO, AND I CHALKED IT UP TO RANDOM FAILURE. BUT NOW 2 FAILURES?

I HAVE THE ORIGINAL FAILED PART IF NEEDED FOR ANALYSIS. THE REPLACEMENT PART I OBTAINED THROUGH TESLA HAS BEEN RE-ENGINEERED, AND APPEARS TO BE FROM A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER. I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED BOTH SIDES, AND I STILL HAVE THE NON-FAILED PART ON THE LEFT SIDE.

I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT TESLA ABOUT THIS, AND THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO ME.
